Canelobre Caves

Canelobre Caves (A-7, Salida 67,Busot) – located a half hour (26 km) north of Alicante city, these caves, located in the small picturesque town of Busot, have been compared to the typical interior of Gothic cathedrals. The acoustics here are good enough to hold concerts (which have occurred on occasion). Interestingly, these caves were busy during the Spanish Civil War (when it provided refuge for the Republican soldiers, as well as being used as an aircraft Factory and powder keg). Eco-tourists and hikers can walk from here to the 1,205 meter-high Cabezón de Oro mountain. Canelobre is said to be Spain’s largest and deepest cave system.
