Castle of San Fernando (Monte Tossal, Alicante) — this castle was built on Monte Tossal (outskirts of Alicante) to counteract the threat of invasion by Napoleon’s troops during the early 1800s. Part of the wall still remains, and the site is used at present as a relaxation area. It is important as one of the few castles that were built during the 19th century. Free admission. Hours: 8:15 am – 3:15 pm (Monday-Friday), 9:15 am – 1:45 pm & 4:30 pm – 6:45 pm(weekends & holidays)(October – March); 9:45 am – 1:45 pm & 5:30 pm – 8:15 pm (Monday-Friday), 10:45 am – 2:45 pm & 5:30 pm – 8:15 pm (weekends & holidays)(April-May, September); 11:30 am – 2:30 pm & 6:00 pm – 9:45 pm (daily)(June to August).
